About the Program
It is the mission of the Child Development Program at Wallace State Community College to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become successful caregivers and administrators in early child care and education programs.
Teachers of young children play a vital role in the development of children. Positive experiences during children’s early years are critical for brain development and can shape their views of themselves and the world. What children learn and experience in the first five years can affect their later success or failure in school.
Preschool teachers use a variety of teaching strategies and materials to teach basic skills and introduce concepts to children in all subjects. Teacher assistants provide instructional and clerical support for classroom teachers. They may also tutor and assist children.
The A.A.S. in Child Development at Wallace State Community College is accredited by the Commission on Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, 1401 H Street NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20005. Dr. Marcie Robinson
WSCC Child Development Program Director and Instructor
Thank you for your interest in Child Development. For more than 25 years, I have taught a variety of ages from birth to adults in different settings. I have been a classroom teacher, reading coach in an elementary school and an adjunct professor before coming to Wallace State Community College to serve in my current role. I earned my Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
I, too, began my education in a community college setting and have diligently worked through school over the years while being a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and teacher. I would love to help you become successful in your education and can provide you with information about our Child Development Program.
Please call me or email me for more information. I would love to speak with you.
